You may relate to this, whether you’re an expat or have been living here all your life! Feeling lonely, despite having a busy social life. Having lots of friends, but still missing your support network. Doing your best, adapting to a new culture, learning the language, growing your network… yet still not feeling at home. Next to your work or study, you may be dealing with loneliness, culture shock, and adaptation process. It can be tough on your wellbeing, especially when you feel no one’s got your back. When not addressed healthily, all these may lead to stress, anxiety, depression and other mental (or physical) health problems.
But, why dance therapy to deal with stress, anxiety, depression?
Do you sometimes feel stuck in life? Going in circles, and not forward? If you are constantly feeling discontent or unhappy, struggling with your self-esteem, experiencing conflicts in your relationships, your life may feel like one survival to another.
How would you feel if you have other options? If you can empower yourself by exercising those options available to you? That there’s another gentler, kinder way of being.
Dance, improvisation, movement, body-awareness is how we can embody these options in the here and now. Not only you feel good and recharged afterward (hello serotonin!), it’s also literally rewiring your brain (yay! neuroplasticity). Dancing makes you smarter, and happier too!
Among what we do in dance therapy is to revisit our movement patterns and how these are reflective of our attitude in life. We allow inner themes to be expressed in movement. Get the mind off the way, and reconnect with our body and feelings.
If we are used to suppressing our feelings, we need to practice to feel again. And important to know, we feel actually through our body. What we perceive as emotions are our brain’s interpretation of our physical sensations. When we become aware of our emotions, we acknowledge and can channel them in a healthy way. We are not dictated by them. Instead, they can be our guidance and compass. What do we actually need or want to live our authentic life?
What lies behind your stress, anxiety, or depression? Learn to express them in the safe space of dance therapy. Don’t feel lonely. Join us. You’re invited to experience yourself, reflect on your life story, and integrate your body/mind knowing. This process often leads you to say “it finally makes sense”.
By joining this wellbeing program, you will:
✔ Learn an integrative body/mind/emotions approach to address your stress and life themes,
✔ Practice soft skills & effective communication in a safe group,
✔ Create more awareness and choice in your life,
✔ In a comprehensive, dynamic program that has your mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing covered!
The Program Structure
Our weekly program alternates between the Dance Movement Psychotherapy (1) and the Dance Therapy Lite for Stress (2) followed by Group Consultation (3). Check out our upcoming open sessions.
1. Dance Movement Psychotherapy (closed group)
The core component of this program, takes place bi-weekly (every other week). We’re not only going to talk, but also experience theme-based exercises with our body, mind and emotions.
THEMES we address are among others: self-awareness, a sense of connection & belonging, stress and boundaries, trauma (and how to heal through our body), giving & receiving support, non-judging (vs self-criticism), and other themes connected to participants’ personal goals.
2. Dance Therapy Lite for Stress Release (open group)
Every other week when there’s no Dance Movement Psychotherapy, we have this lite format of dance therapy aimed for stress release. We focus on connecting with our body, playful connection with others, and creative expression. This session is open for non-program participants.
THEMES we address are among others: body-awareness, relaxation, stress/ pain relief, creative expression and connecting with yourself through your body, basically.
3. Consultation Hour (closed group)
Every other week, right after the Dance Therapy Lite, limited for the program participants. You bring in any question that you wish to get perspectives from me and the group.
